Jofra Archer Biography

Jofra Chioke Archer is a Barbadian born English cricketer who represents Sussex Cricket Club in County cricket. Archer was born on 1st April 1995 in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The highly talented All-rounder is a right arm fast medium bowler and boasts six 50s and 89 wickets in 20 First Class matches.

Background

Archer played for West Indies Under-19s three times in 2014 but moved to England in pursue to start his International career with ECB.

Archer has an English father and British passport but is not eligible to play for England until the winter of 2022 due to the rule of ECB as he did not live in England until after his 18th birthday, so needs to complete a seven-year residency period.

Debut

He made his first-class debut with Sussex in the Pakistan tour of England and Ireland at Brighton on 8th July 2016. He scalped 4/49 and 1/24 in his debut match as the match ended in a draw.  

Exactly one week later, he played his T20 debut for Sussex against Hampshire in the NatWest T20 blast where he claimed the wicket of the opening batsman in his second over.

On 24th July 2016, he made his One Day debut in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Cheltenham against Gloucestershire which ended in a losing cause.

Rise to Glory

He also wasted no time showing his potential with the bat as he struck 72 batting at No 8 on debut against Essex.

The long-term back injury was an important factor which hindered his chances of a contract, but Sussex acted quickly to secure him.

He joined the Hobart Hurricanes in Australia's Big Bash League as a replacement for Tom Curran. He impressed in his debut by bowling a double-wicket maiden against the Melbourne Renegades.

He has clocked more than 150 Kmph and took 15 wickets in 10 matches for the Hurricanes.

The scouts of various franchises of the IPL started noticing his performances in the domestic circuit and he was snapped by the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping Rs 7.2 Crores.
